Reception Volunteer

Reception Volunteers support the Administration Team with the smooth running of the hospice reception. This includes welcoming visitors and undertaking a range of administrative tasks such as typing, opening mail and photocopying.

Reception volunteers are often the first point of contact for children and families, so a friendly, warm response at the end of the phone or in person can help to make a big difference to their stay and overall experience of CHAS. Additionally, supporting the Admin Team with administration tasks helps to ensure the post goes out on time, filing is up to date and paperwork is managed appropriately. These tasks are so valuable and contribute to the smooth running of the hospice.

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers who will provide a warm and reassuring welcome to families and visitors.

How much time should I offer?

Reception volunteers support Monday- Friday.

Key times are:

• Morning 9:00- 13:00 • Afternoon 13:00-17:00

We are looking for support on an ad hoc basis to cover busy periods. No need to commit to a regular slot or a 4 hour shift. We are keen to hear from people with flexibility across the week.

What ongoing learning/support/guidance will I receive?

It’s important to us that you feel happy, safe and confident during your time with us. As a CHAS volunteer you will be invited to complete a short core learning package that is tailored to your role.

Your Volunteer Manager will provide ongoing support and guidance to you. We have also partnered with the Skills Network to offer all our volunteers the chance to develop new skills and explore further learning opportunities.

We have an Assistance Programme provided by Health Hero to support our volunteers with all aspects of their lives, whether that is at work or at home. This is confidential and free of charge.

What else should I know?

We will pay your out of pocket expenses in line with the CHAS volunteer expenses policy.
